The Leslie Powell Gallery Presents The Opening of a New Art Exhibition
The Leslie Powell Gallery is proud to present the opening of a new art exhibition. A Figurative Practice, painitngs and drawings of the human form by Jack Crouch, will open with a reception on Saturday, 10 January 2026.
For Jack Crouch, an artist’s body of work gains strength and depth through the accumulation of years of concentrated effort. A Figurative Practice reflects the ongoing evolution of Crouch’s art practice over the past four years. “Each study, sketch, and painting informs the next, feeding into the development of my larger works,” says the artist. While he works primarily in charcoal and oil, Crouch intentionally revisits figuration through various materials. He welcomes the insight that comes from these variations, allowing the experimentation to shift his work between traditional, expressive, and more abstract modes of art making.
Working with the human figure, Crouch intends for the viewer to slow down and engage with the act of looking. “My work is not merely representational; it is an exploration of the intimate—and often uneasy—triangle between artist, subject, and viewer. By representing the human form, I aim to surface questions around perception, vulnerability, and the tension of voyeurism.”
Born and raised in rural Illinois, Crouch was immersed in an artistic environment from an early age. His father, an artist, and his mother, a preschool teacher, nurtured his creative inclinations. He pursued formal education in art, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Western Illinois University in 2009. Crouch continued his studies at Bradley University, where he obtained a Master of Arts and a terminal Master of Fine Arts degree. Crouch currently teaches figure drawing, painting, and printmaking at Cameron University. His academic role allows him to share his passion and expertise with a new generation of artists, fostering their development while continuing to evolve his own artistic practice.
A Figurative Practice will open with a reception on Saturday, 10 January 2026. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the event will run until 8:00 PM. As with all events at the Leslie Powell Gallery, this reception is free to attend and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. After the reception, the exhibition will be available to view during regular gallery hours from Tuesday,13 January to Friday, 27 February 2026. Regular gallery hours are 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
